Anamdi:
The Light at the End of the Tunnel

by

I have read the article: BABANGIDA; The light at the end of the tunnel? written by one Fazil Ope-Agbe on Friday, October 15, 2004 in the Vanguard and posted on the internet www.vangaurdngr.com/articles/2002/politics/p315102004.html with deep admiration. I personally do not know this gentleman. But from the write-up, I understand he was also the author of the universally applauded treatise on Awolowo/Akintola confrontations of the First Republic. From the role he apparently played in the Second Republic, he must be a man of timber and caliber (thanks Mbadiwe-may the peace of Allah be unto him!). He was apparently the godfather of NPN polticians in Lagos and at about 60-70 years is no one whose logic could be controverted by mere mortals.

I particularly agree with the synopsis of his article. According to him:

The BBC last December announced that the CIA handed over to Nigeria a list of Nigerians who had stashed away in foreign banks.   According to the BBC the money involved was in the region of  $150bn of which Babangida own stash was $30bn.If Babangida has $30bn then take it from me that God put that money in his custody for safe keeping pending its eventual release for disbursement for the benefit of Nigerias deprived millions. If Babangida had left that money in the treasury. Successive governments would have made it disappear without trace. Whatever money Babangida has, he removed it from the system and out of the reach of deeply entrenched, traditional and experienced looters and he is now poised  to return it to the downtrodden masses.

What makes me feel so confident that he will give it back to the poor people who really need it..is because he Babangida  draws his support from an assemblage of famished youths, failed politicians and expired people in search of new efficacy ie from the poor, the hungry and the wretched who constitute an overwhelming majority of the Nigerian populace.

Mr. Ope-Agbe then challenged Nigerians to nominate a better candidate than IBB and offered free service to anyone to promote an

alternate candidate better than
IBB come 2007. It is here that I take up the challenge thrown by Mr. Ope-Agbe. He has correctly interposed that we, poor Nigerians ( I am of course not sure that he is one of us!) to nominate a better candidate. He has correctly asserted that we the poor should not leave the nomination of the next candidate in the hands of elitist power brokers in the Arewa Consultative Forum or in the Ohaneze Ndigbo or in Afenifere.

Hence my candidate is yours truly, Chike Ifechukwu Dominic Anamdi. Chike Anamdi is a quintessential Nigerian qualified in every category enunciated by Mr. Ope-Agbe.

First, he belongs to the same age group as all the contenders in the race, be it IBB, Ope-Agbe, Atiku or what have you. Despite over thirty years of blue collar slaving through Europe and the Americas, he is still as poor as any Nigerian can be.

Chike Anamdi is also an ex soldier of sorts. In college he had a one-semester course in the ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) of the US. He is therefore not a bloody civilian. He understands espirit de corps necessary to hold the respect of our armed forces. He holds our typical senior army officer insignias such as Chike Anamdi Airman First Class, pss (passed standard six),mni (minimal natural intelligence) etc.

I read on the internet that we now have a factory dishing out degrees to our honourable members in Abuja. I also read that the one-man University has been closed down. I figure that there must be some politicians still in search of degrees. If the purchase of a degree is one of the qualifications for leadership in Nigeria, I am sure that the selling of degrees must also be hot in Abuja especially now the erstwhile merchant of degrees is out of business. I reckon that if I sell the few degrees I hold in Abuja, I should be in a position to fill a number of Ghana-must-go bags to lobby a few Senators and Hon. Members!

Above all, I hold the most important qualification enunciated by Mr. Ope-Agbe. I hold some money belonging to Nigerian masses. In 1962 after High School, I worked for six months before leaving Nigeria. I was earning 174 pounds sterling per annum or 348 Naira per annum. Before my resignation, I took two weeks sick leave to go back

to
Onitsha and take leave of family and friends before departure to the US. Since I was not really sick, the two week salary I collected actually belonged to the poor masses of Nigeria. This amount of roughly N13.38 I have kept in various European and American Banks since 1963 I have promised to return this fortune to the poor masses one day. I knew then that Politicians like Chief Okotie- Eboh, the then Federal Minister of Finance was rumoured to be corrupt. I would for no reason let this treasure remain the Central Bank to be looted by bloody civilians. Of course I had no premonition then how our military men would perfect the science of treasury-looting in the following three decades. Nothing will make me part with this of the peoples money, until I am sure that the government I hand that to will invest it the affairs of the people. And there can be no better person I can trust better than myself! Hence, if Nigerians want this treasure returned to Nigeria, they should vote Anamdi as the next president.

I must admit that there is one area, I am not quite qualified yet. I

 BNW Advocates' Island

have observed that if you want to be a politician in Nigerian, you must politically marry correct. If you are a Muslim, you should marry from each geopolitical zones to appear patriotic (vie
Abubakar Atiku). If you are restricted to one wife, you have to shop in another zone for a bride, (vide IBB, Emeka Anyoku etc). Well, I had not taught of being a political candidate before now. But, as soon as Mr. Fazil Ope-Agbe takes up my cause, I will quickly traverse the zones for adequate political brides. I already have good prospects from three zones. I am requesting Mr. Ope-Agbe to help me in this Endeavour too.

Finally, I am also politically well connected. Many Nigerian now claim friendship or association with MKO Abiola. But, not many Nigerians can claim to have been MKOs landlord. Yes, yours truly was a landlord to the multimillionaire. The types of Fazil Ope-Agbe may know MKO politically, but I know him personally and intimately. And this

must count for something post June 12 era.

So, Mr. Fazil Ope-Agbe over to you. The ball is now in your court!
