Open Letter to Christian Ubah

by
Victor Onyiliagha

Dear Chief, Sir, Dr., Hon., Esq, Christian Ubah:

Ochiagha of Awka, Ochendo of Nkpologwu, Ugochinyere of Ukpo, Omezirimba of Isuaniocha, Ugomba of Amesi, Isiakpu of Okwelle, Eseluenuego of Uga, Onwanetilora of Aguata.

How are you Sir? We hope fine? How is business? Hope fine too? Greetings to the family. We would have written you earlier but were waiting to ascertain whether the dust you and your thugs raised in Anambra state has settled or is it like the dust of the Bellfry which never quite settles. The dust of the bellfry never settle, it awaits the next clangour. We have the time but space won`t allow us to list all your "hard earned" titles which we learnt you always insist goes a long way to qualify your Chiefness. After all there are chiefs and there are chiefs.

We are well aware of your quarell with the Governor of our State

Chief Chris Ngige over a sum he failed to balance you for the help you gave to win Anambra State. We wish to state it categorically that Anambra state is not a business venture or a private money yielding enterprise. Anambra state belongs to us as it belongs to you and since Anambrarians were not privy to your agreement with the Governor, our state property should not be destroyed by you and your thugs to settle a private political score. Eselu, it is either you don`t know business or you suffer from short memory. Come, was it not four years ago we had exactly thesame case of Emeka Offor and Mbadinuju and we knew no peace and development. It is a time-worn truism that when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers, we wish to add as in your case when two stupid elephants fight, it is not only the grass that suffers but other animals, cars, houses, government house and property etc.

From your above listed titles, you must have presumed we know you too well. No sir. Chief we got your titles from a song by a local

minstrel who bears the name of a north African country. You are great Chief. The minstrel sang an album front and back with your biography, that of your wife and children. Eselu, is it true that you schooled in Canada. Ottawa to be precise. Maybe you hustled in Canada chief but school no. Ma ncha. If you schooled in Canada, what on earth ever made you descend to that kind of Agboro motor park nonsense at Awka and Onitsha, destroying government property and disturbing public peace. We wonder the kind of example, you are setting for Nonye, Chidinma and Odera Ubah your children.

Eselu, is it true you are connected to heaven itself or to the President or to the Presidency that makes you feel above the law. Come, is it true you are married to the wife of the President or that your brother is married to the sister of the wife of the President or something. Help us to understand. When next your minstrel friend sings about you, tell him to sing about how you wine and dine with the President and Commander in thief (slip of pen) of the Nigerian armed forces. Lest we forget

Chinua Achebe sent greetings. Says he will accept the National Award when one party PDP state is in place.

Extend our regards to your Father Philip Ubah and Mother Bessie Ubah. Don`t go into those angry fits of yours asking what has your parents got to do with this. They are involved because they gave birth to you.

We don`t expect a reply to our letter and we might write you again when you must have carried out the second storm you promised the people of Anambra. They say charity begins at home. Why do yours begin abroad? When next start your mayhem. Start from Oye Uga market square by burning all houses, cars, buses and even people from Uga to Aguata and that`s when you become the real Onwanetilora of Aguata
