In the 80s I did buy several albums that were released by the RAS label from Onitsha, does anyone know what happened to it, are they still in business?

Does anyone know what happened to bands like Ikenga, Super Negro Bantous, Africa System Orchestra?

Hi Patrick

The RAS Records I was referring to was based in Onitsha. As this is a Nigerian/Biafran message board I really had hoped someone would know. Ras Records also released all those wonderful Prince Nico lp's during the 80's.

Thanks anyway

Ronald

RAS: Royal Astronomical Society

RAS: Rogers All Stars

Enlighten us, please!

Ronald,

Just curious, besides Prince Nico Mbarga, Negro Bantous and "Africa System Orchestra," who else recorded at RAS Records in the 80s? I would like to see the collections you have, and a PM would be just fine.

Thanks

Ronald,

I was told one of Eddy "Obi of Trumpet" Okonta's last recordings was at RAS Records. Is that true? Yes, I remember Okukuseku but which Original Brothers are you talking about?

I do not know if Eddy's last record was on RAS.

I did have an album by the Original Brothers called:Iheoma Ogo Egbulem. That's all I know about them, unfortunately someone borrowed it and never returned it.

Ronald,

Is it true Ali Chukwuma recorded with Osadebe before he went solo in the seventies?

Hi Boy

I have never heard of Ali Chukwuma, but I think you might find this intersting:

http://biochem.chem.nagoya-u.ac.jp/~endo/africa.html

There are discographies of several Nigerian artists listed at this site one of them is Ali Chukwuma, hope this helps.

I like most African music though not all, my favourite type is Congolese. So do I dance?, well every now and then at parties I do a bit but not much.

BTW,here is a link to a forum where I usually write, mostly about Congolese music:

Ronald,

Never heard of the songs "Listen To The Budha" and "Anambra"? Well, the group Ozo was a classic band in the 70s led by Asaba-born Kenny St. George. I wonder if their records can be found anywhere, and if you happen to come across it, let me know.

Thanks,

Boy Ajasco, IDI
