Is the following a true statement? According to the BBC:
quote:
Lagos is the biggest city in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa, but until recently it did not even have any cinemas. --- BBC

That is all the more surprising given that Nigerians love watching films: the country is famous for its thriving and expanding home-video industry.

Later, the writer indicated that "Lagos now has its first multi-screen cinema complex - a rarity in Africa. " That may be true. But have we not always had cinemeas throughout Nigeria?

Cinemas and movie theatres should be reactivated in Nigeria and the south east in particular. The phenomenal growth of the movie industry in Nigeria have not translated into meaningful financial benefits for the industry operatives.Poor quality re-dubbed Nigerian films are sold and rented in all African stores in the USA.I am sure the same applies in most other countries. If it can happen here in America where piracy is a federal offence.

India had the same problem in the early days of it`s movie industry (Bollywood).Today, by the combined use of cinemas and strict copy right laws enforcement, India is now the second largest movie industry after hollywood.

Our film producers should select specific cinemas in different cities in Nigeria where they can show New movies for about 3 months period before those movies are released to the markets.Mean while pre-views and advertisement of the new movie is sustained on the local television stations.Over time, this strategy would encourage people again to go see new movies at cinemas and enable the huge cost of financing a movie to be recouped before the movie enters the market. While also helping to resurrect the cinema business in Nigeria.Which died after the chinese and Indians tightened their own copy right laws.

Nollywood should also liase with appropriate government agencies to strictly monitor and enforce the copy right and intellectual property laws in Nigeria and overseas.Only in this way can our movie industry have a future and be able to improve itself with time.

Blessing:

How about Rex Cinema in Aba? It was so big that it was also used as a boxing arena in the good old days for boxing greats like Dick Tiger.
