THE Nigeria Wushu-Kung Fu Federation (NWKF) has indicated interest to host an African Championship in August. President of the Federation, Ojo Adelusi told Champion Sports that hosting an International Championship in the country would provide an opportunity for Nigerian Kung fu fighters to gain some international exposure and as well build a cordial relationship between the federation and the continental body.

Adelusi, who is also a karate expert lamented that the absence of Nigerian fighters in major international competition is a great set-back for the development of the game in the country.

He, however, urged corporate bodies in the country to assist the federation to make Kung fu a leading sport in the country.

"I think Nigeria Kung Fu fighters need international exposure to grow. We're determined to ensure that by hosting an African Championship in August will give them the opportunity to test their skills against the best from other parts of the continent.

Also, hosting an African Championship will go a long way to maintain cordial relationship with the continental body" he said.

Coach Adelusi who blamed lack of fund as a major problem affecting the growth of the game in the country disclosed that arrangements have been concluded by the federation to organise refresher courses for coaches and officiating officials to enable them update their knowledge on current trends in modern coaching and officiating.

He, however, said that a trial would be held between May 18 and 21 to select the team that will represent Nigeria at the Championship
