Another Player Dies on Okwarajis Memorial
From Emeka Enechi in Keffi, 08.13.2006

Tragedy struck Nigerian football yesterday when a Plateau United player slumped and died during a Pro League match.
The player, Boniface Danjuma, was on duty for the Jos side against city rivals, Jos University Teaching Hospital FC (JUTH) at the Nassarawa Stadium, Keffi.
All first aid efforts to revive the player proved abortive as he was pronounced dead on the pitch.
The whole stadium was thrown into confusion when Danjuma a midfielder slumped and died just 13th minute into the game held on the 17th memorial anniversary of former Nigerian international, Sam Okwaraji, who died in similar circumstances in 1989.
Match commissioner, Ibrahim Dambatta who described Danjumas death as tragic said it was unfortunate the death happened on the day Nigerians were remembering Okwaraji.
It is very, very unfortunate this type of thing happened again to our football and on this day, Dambatta said.
According to him, it was after weighing all the options that the officials resolved to continue with the match as a mark of honour and respect to the fallen player.
The late Danjuma has now followed the path of Okwaraji and Amir Angwe as some of the notable Nigerian players to die midway into a major football encounter.
But his death on the occasion the remembrance of Okwaraji will continue to haunt the lovers of the game.

Okwaraji, one of Nigerias greatest and most patriotic players slumped and died on August 12, 1989 during a World Cup qualifier against the Plancas Negras of Angola at the National Stadium, Lagos.
Though the Eagles barely won the tense match 2-1 , Nigeria eventually lost the group ticket to Cameroon who sealed a place for the World Cup finals held in Italy in 1990.
