A few years ago a man was rescued from a desert island in the South Pacific. This poor man hadn't seen another human being for over 15 years. One day while beach-combing he looked out to sea and saw a great ship approaching. At this sight he could barely get a hold on his wits but soon had a signal fire burning. People on the ship saw the smoke from the fire and sent out a dingy to investigate. When the little boat finally made it to shore, the shipwrecked man was dancing with wild and uncontrollable delight. He ran toward the occupants and excitedly exclaimed, "thank God you found me, I haven't seen another human being for the past 15 years."
One of the rescuers asked him,"how in the world did you survive all those years alone on this island. What did you eat?"
The man replied, "It wasn't as hard as it looks, friend. There's lots of fruit in the forest and the hunting is extremely good. Also there is fish. And I occupied my time by building myself a home with all the comforts one could wish...and when I finished with my home I built myself a church so I could be close to God. See that hill way over there, that's my house on the right... and that's my church next to it."
All of the men from the ship were completely dumbfounded by the large and beautiful buildings that graced the brow of that tropical hill, until one of them noticed a third building, and said, "I see your house, and I see your church, but what is that other structure I see?
The shipwrecked man replied, "Oh, that's where I used to go to church."
