Negotiations are taking place to free as many as 100 foreign oil workers
who are being held hostage on four separate oil rigs off the BiafraNigerian coast. Local employees took control
of the platform after some of their colleagues were sacked, but their specific demands remain unclear. The siege
has been going on for more than a week but has only recently come to public attention. (BBC)

The ruling PDP has indicated its willingness to set
aside the results of the April 19 presidential elections in six states where election observers claimed the polling
was marred by irregularities. The party said even wtih the exclusion of the six states now mired in controversy,
its candidate, President Olusegun Obasanjo still had sufficient votes to make him win the election. (This Day)
