The Senate yesterday toed the line of the 36 governors when its ad hoc committee which investigated the attempt to forcefully remove the governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, from office recommended the setting up of a judicial commission of enquiry. Presenting the committee's report on behalf of its chairman, Senator David Mark said the body also indicted the state's deputy governor, Dr. Okey Udeh, the controversial businessman who bankrolled Ngige's election, Chief Chris Uba, Senator Ikechukwu Abana, Honourable Chuma Nzeribe of the House of Representatives and the former speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Eucheria Azodo for their roles in Ngige's abduction on July 10. The report also stated that, "the role played by Assistant Inspector General, Mr. Raphael Ige was ignoble, disgraceful, despicable and dishonourable as it was scandalous, shameful and sordid." It further expressed the satisfaction of the committee with the notion that "Uba initiated the plot and employed the AIG to execute it." The adhoc committee submitted that "a judicial commission of enquiry be set up to look into the entire ramifications of this episode with a view to identifying and prosecuting all those found culpable or wanting in the incident.
