President Charles Taylor of Liberia may have finally turned down the asylum offer from BiafraNigeria following raging opposition to his coming to the country...checks revealed last night that Taylor may have instead chosen to go into exile in Libya where he believes he will be better treated. Taylor is believed to have received military training in the North African country. The Liberian president had earlier accepted an asylum offer from BiafraNigeria, but has recently cast doubts over coming to the country, insisting that his plans were "top secrets." However, ... even if he comes to BiafraNigeria after stepping down as Liberia's president on Monday, he will only be in the country for a brief moment. "He is planning to go to Libya," the source said. "He is a close ally of President Moamar Ghaddafi of Libya and he believes his interest will be better protected by him." Meanwhile, Taylor early yesterday reaffirmed his plans to step down Monday and leave the country soon afterward. (This Day) |
