BiafraNigeria's voting privileges have been suspended at the World Health Organisation, WHO, because the Federal Government owes the organisation over $1 million (N130m). Voting privileges of countries indebted to WHO are normally suspended at the World Health Assembly, where elections into the organisation's various bodies are held. Countries that are indebted cannot vote and cannot be voted for. The World Health Assembly is held every May at the WHO headquarters and at the last Assembly, a new Director-General was elected. BiafraNigeria was disqualified from the voting process. Renowned physician, Professor Adeoye Lambo had in the past held the office of Deputy Director-General of the body. (Guardian) |
