Former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, early yesterday morning arrived Calabar, his new abode, in company of one of his wives and about 50 others and said "I don't have problems and I have come to stay for good." Taylor who was reluctant in answering questions from newsmen who had trailed him from the Margaret Ekpo International Airport to the Governor's Lodge, where he was hosted by Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State only managed to add that "I am okay here. I don't have problems." Taylor's confidence about his well-being in Calabar is, however, believed to have been buoyed by the assurance given him by Duke who told newsmen at a press conference yesterday afternoon that the former Liberian president is safe in Biafra Nigeria and "would not suffer any outside embarrassment." But in Monrovia, the rebel group, Liberia United for Reconstruction and Democracy (LURD), yesterday agreed to withdraw its men from Monrovia Port on Thursday. The decision was the outcome of a two-hour meeting between United States officials and representatives of the group. (This Day) |
