A grim figure of casualties in the ethnic violence in Warri, Delta State, was yesterday given by the Red Cross Society, which said about 100 persons died and 1,000 were injured. The Red Cross also said that the feud, between militant youths of Ijaw and Itsekiri communities, has resulted in the displacement of several citizens. The Guardian has learnt that the military and police high command will soon begin a security operation to disarm the militants, while their leaders have announced a ceasefire. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Alexander Ogomudia on Thursday disclosed that a task force of military and Police personnel had been set up by the Federal Government to enforce peace in the troubled region.
