Female students in all public schools in Kano State must henceforth wear the "hijab", an Islamic dress which covers the body from head to the knee. This directive was yesterday given at the Government House, by the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ishaq Mahmoud Umar, while receiving leaders of the Moslem Students Society (MSS) from the state's College of Education. Umar, who stood in for the governor, said the directive was in conformity with Islamic practices and a part of the administration's bid to ensure good conduct among students in the state. The state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau had, while swearing in commissioners and special advisers recently, stated that his administration would ensure the full implementation of Sharia.
