Labor Minister Arrested: Nwodo, Afolabi, 4 others also Detained Labor and Productivity Minister, Alhaji Hussaini Zannuwa Akwanga, former Minister of Internal Affairs, Chief Sunday Afolabi and his successor, Dr. Mahmud Shata are among seven persons arrested and presently being detained for alleged fraud by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The commission, in a statement, said the seven "are alleged to have collected collosal sums of money in local and foreign currencies" in connection with the National Identity Card scheme. It alleged that the deal involved the $214 million (over N21 billion) contract of the National Identity Card project. The others are former National Secretary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Permanent Secretary, Internal Affairs Ministry, Ms. .... Police arrest six UAD activisits...   Eulogy: Okadigbo Begins Final Journey   AUDIO   VIDEO Over 40 armed policemen yesterday disrupted the United Action for Democracy�s (UAD) rally against Presidnet Olusegun Obasanjo, at the Yaba Bus Stop, arresting six of the pro-democracy activisits and brutalising journalists. The protest was apparently meant to counter the one organised by the Frederick Fasehun faction of the OPC on Monday to drum support for the president. (Daily Independent)   It was eulogy all the way when Federal lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives yesterday held a joint valedictory session for the late former Senate President, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo. Senate President Adolphus Wabara, described Okadigbo as "a firm believer in the primacy of the parliament as the dominant theatre of representative democracy, an astute defender of the integrity and independence of a vital yet long distressed institution."...
