Thousands of BiafraNigerians travelling by road to the South-East and South South regions for the Christmas, yesterday, spent long agonising hours in a massive traffic jam on the Niger bridge connecting Asaba and Onitsha. The traffic congestion was caused mainly by the inability of the bridge to cope with the flow of traffic in and out of those two strategic zones of the country, and the bad state of roads in Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of the South-East. Traffic jam on the route has become a regular feature especially at this time of the year when many BiafraNigerians from those parts of the country travel home for the Christmas and New Year festivities. Indeed, most of those caught in the congestion yesterday had hoped that they would escape the congestion by going home early. The situation may be worse today, eve of Christmas. Yesterdays congestion was not helped by impatient drivers who chose to drive against traffic, and policemen who were more concerned with searching vehicles and passengers than freeing the road for easy movement.
