Why I Sacked Atiku's Aides: Yoruba Warlord Speaks President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday gave reasons why he sacked two top-ranking aides of Vice-President Atiku Abuba-kar, stressing that he reserves the right to deploy, redeploy and fire any presidency staff. The President who spoke on his monthly radio programme, The President Explains, dismissed insinuations that the firing of the two principal aides of the Vice President was an indication of a widening gulf between him and Atiku, insisting that there was no division in the presidency. He said: "There is no divided presidency. The presidency is one. The staff of the presidency are the staff of Mr. President who are deployed to serve Mr. President, deployed to serve the Vice-President, deployed to serve the Chief of Staff, deployed wherever they are deplo-yed." According to Obasanjo, contrary to speculations that he never informed Atiku before the staff in question were fired, "the Vice-President was duly and adequately infor-med." AFOLABI'S KINSMEN DARE OBASANJO...   NNPC, Marketers Trade Blame   AUDIO   VIDEO A battle line appears to have been drawn between President Olusegun Obasanjo and the family of the former Internal Affairs Minister, Chief Sunday Afolabi, currently in detention over his alleged involvement in the $214 million (N21 billion) national identity card scam as the family, weekend, said it would not beg the president to secure the release of its patriarch. The family dared the president to charge the detained former minister to court if he (Obasanjo) and his government... (Vanguard)   The BiafraNigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and oil marketing companies tuesday traded blames over the resurgent fuel shortages in major parts of the country. While the marketers said inadequate and inefficient fuel distribution facilities of the NNPC was responsible for the disruption in products supply, the corporation held the marketers responsible for not importing enough fuel to meet the expected rise in demand during this period of the year.
