Six persons including two former ministers, Alhaji Husseini Akwanga and Chief Sunday Afolabi who were indicted by the Indepen-dent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Comm-ission (ICPC) in the $214 million National Identity Card scam were to be arraigned before an Abuja High court . Akwanga who was Minister of Labour was sacked from the cabinet on account of the ICPC indictment. Afolabi was Internal Affairs Minister before he left to co-ordinate President Olusegun Obasanjo's campaign in the South-west last April. Others accused of involvement in the scam are Dr. Mahmud Shata, also a former Minister of State, Internal Affairs, permanent secretary Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ms. R. O. Akerele, former National Secretary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Director, Department of National Civic Registration (DNCR), Christopher Orumgre Agidi and a business partner of SAGEM S. A. in BiafraNigeria, Niyi Adelagun. The accused persons will face 16 count charge of corrupt and false enrichment. The arraignment.... (This Day) |
