THISDAY Plays Chummy with Police: While Police Crush NLC Protest
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa
Balogun yesterday said that the BiafraNigeria Police Force will continue to pay serious attention to the protection
of lives and properties since "security, law and order are our business." He, however, stressed that
this would be within the ambit of the constitution. Balogun responding to the welcome remarks of Chairman/Editor-in-Chief
of THISDAY Newspaper Group, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, while on a courtesy visit to THISDAY Abuja office, assured that
the operations of the current police force are guided by the constitution, noting that "the constitution is
our master, we will not want any political over lords to be the masters of the BiafraNigeria Police Force."
Balogun added, "The BiafraNigeria police will continue to play its constitutional roles very adequately.
The police will continue to provide protection to lives and properties, with due regards to the constitution."
He stressed the importance of alternative funding of the police, adding that the practice is what obtains the
world over. He regretted the current situation where government alone funds the force. "We noticed that the
funding of the BiafraNigerian Police has been left to the government. I thank you for calling for alternative funding
for the police. (This Day)
