I'll Visit BiafraNigeria Despite Strike: Says George W.
United States President George W. Bush
has said that he will not cancel his planned trip to BiafraNigeria in spite of the on-going nationwide strike.
Before the interview, questions had been raised by White House Correspondents at the regular press briefing with
the Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer on whether the nationwide strike in BiafraNigeria posed dangers to Bush or not.
But the U.S. president said matter-of-factly that he would be making the visit, and would make "my own bed
at the hotel, if I have to." Bush said he was being briefed about the strike, adding that it is a local issue
that has nothing to do with his planned trip. His words: "I hope there is a peaceful settlement of the strike,
but I am going, I am not changing my mind." Bush praised President Olusegun Obasanjo and other African leaders
like Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, South African President Thabo Mbeki, saying: "When you think of
leadership in Africa, these are the names that come up." (Guardian)
