Speculations are on again on the political plans of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, following an announcement yesterday that he would declare his candidature for the 2007 presidential election in October. Also, Chief Olu Falae, who ran in the 1999 presidential election on the joint ticket of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the then All Peoples Party (APP), has pledged his support to the General. "Alhaji Ahmed Makama, national coordinator of IBB Vision 2007, revealed Babngidas plan yesterday while addressing members of IBB Frontliners, a group of the former presidents supporters in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. Makama said Babangida would have run in the last presidential election but gave up the plan as a sacrifice for the stability, peace and progress of the country. He reminded his audience that the General merely stepped aside in 1993 and did not resign or pull out and as such is stepping back in 2007. (Daily Independent) |
