Two Agents of Electoral Fraud: Reps Want Goubadia,
Balogun Sacked
The House of Representatives yesterday asked the Chairman
of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Abel Goubadia, and the Inspector General of Police, Tafa
Balogun, to resign their appointments honourably or get sacked. They also called for the removal of all the
Resident Electoral Commissioners for compromising their positions in the elections so far held. Following a motion
moved by the House Leader, Mohammed Wakil, requesting the House to pass a resolution condemning the conduct of
the last elections in the country and to take far-reaching decisions to discourage malpractices in future elections,
the House resolved after lengthy contributions by members that the INEC chief and his commissioners should resign
or the government should sack them immediately for embarrassing the country. They also asked the police chief
to throw in the towel or be sacked, while also advising the three service chiefs the Army, Navy and Air
Force to withdraw their men to the barracks in the interest of peace. In the same vain, the lawmakers, apparently
showing their anger over the fate of majority of their members who lost out, called for the cancellation of the
results of the elections in areas where there were glaring evidence of malpractices and fraud.... (Daily Independent)
