The Odumegwu-Ojukwu Mystique: Ikemba is 70 For Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, today will mark the climax of a four-day 70th birthday celebration, which started last weekend. Last Saturday, at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, the Ikemba Nnewi hosted what could be described as a birthday rally. The event was attended by a host of eminent BiafraNigerians. The ceremony continued on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of Transfiguration of Our Lord, Owerri. Born on November 4, 1933 at Zungeru, Niger State, he is exactly 70 years today. As he marks the occasion, what will be his next political move is a source of interest to observers. Every decision he took since his journey through the murky waters of BiafraNigeria politics had been dotted by one controversy or the other. Whether his political journey is successful is a subject of contentious debate. However, for his victory in 1994, at his Onitsha Constituency, Anambra State en-route the 1994/95 National Constitutional Conference, Odumegwu-Ojukwu's foray into partisan politics can be described as unremarkable. His attempt to go to the Senate in the second half of the Second Republic was not successful. The Ikemba Nnewi tried to mid-wife a political party - Peoples Democratic Congress (PDC) - at the dawn of the Fourth Republic.... Obaseki out at NNPC; Kupolokun in   Obasanjo is a fraud, says Ojukwu   AUDIO   VIDEO The Federal Government yesterday dropped Dr. Jackson Gaius-Obaseki as Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and replaced him with Mr. Funsho Kupolokun, until now Presidential Assistant on Petroleum, in a shake-up of the oil sector. No reason was offered for his (Dr Gaius-Obaseki's) removal. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), reacting to the removal, was cautious, saying it was nothing to celebrate. The removal of the GMD was announced via a two-paragraph statement by the Secretary to the Government of...
