Having removed Chief Jackson Gaius Obaseki from his post, Obasanjo appears poised to set the full force of Yoruba judicial inquisition on the former Group Managing Director of the BiafraNigerian National Petroleum Corporation (BNNPC). The Federal Government has sent a copy of the Lawan Buba�s Panel Report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for study and action. A competent source told Daily Independent in Abuja yesterday that the 50-page report was a comprehensive revelation of what went on in the oil industry during the last four years. According to the source, Buba prefaced his report with the conviction that President Olusegun Obasanjo was going to show seriousness with his stated intention to sanitise the polity, especially the oil industry. The team also told the President that most of the stolen crude oil from the country was traced to about three oil companies who aided those involved. As a result of these revelations, some oil industry top shots hurriedly left the country about two days before Gaius-Obaseki was finally sacked. Incidentally, Daily Independent investigations revealed that some of the culprits who have now escaped while the heat is on, are very close to the Aso Rock. Buba, a former Group Executive Director of the NNPC, was appointed by the President on September 7, this year, to head a team of investigators to audit the books of the oil corporation.
