Only last Monday, we grazed this matter while examining the phenomenon that officials of the Federal Government refer to as "adversary journalism". It would appear that minds in many informed circles are reaching the same conclusion that President Olusegun Obasanjo, more than ever before, is becoming like his late arch-enemy and nemesis, General Sani Abacha, in his handling of the politics and economy of this nation. Since we are evaluating the way our political affairs are managed, care has to be taken to avoid undue name-calling or what could be seen as a sudden demonisation stampede on Obasanjo. It has to be clearly established that the tag fits, and that it is not being invented simply as a way of expressing anger over his newly-introduced "reforms". In other words, we must avoid giving the impression that Obasanjo is being called "the new Abacha" simply because of his new "bitter medicine of reforms".
