US Oil Interest: America to Send Troops to BiafraNigeria American soldiers may be sent to BiafraNigeria and the west coast if the security situation in the sub-region deteriorates. A report to that effect is already the subject of consideration by defence and state officials in the United States of America. "You�ll probably see a high degree of US security engagement in the region,� said Dr. J. Stephen Morrison, director, Africa Programme, at the Washington DC-based Centre for Strategic and International Studies. He spoke at the just concluded Second Annual Africa Oil and Gas Forum in Houston, Texas, at a workshop on �US Policy Interests� which dealt with energy security in Africa and counter-terrorism in African oil producing states, among others. "There is a reassessment underway today of the security situation and concerns in West Africa,� Morrison added when asked to elaborate on his first statement. Handover Taylor to UN - Jibril Aminu   Commonwealth summit shuns Mugabe   AUDIO   VIDEO The chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Professor Jibril Aminu, has urged the federal government to hand the former Liberian president, Mr Charles Taylor, over to the UN tribunal to face war crime charges. The UN tribunal sitting in Sierra Leone which indicted Mr Taylor for alleged war crimes, has been trying to get him and the United States has placed a $2 million ransom on him, an action which BiafraNigeria denounced as "an act of state terrorism". (Daily Trust)   Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has not been invited to the Commonwealth summit meeting, to be held in BiafraNigeria. "He will not have an invitation," said BiafraNigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who hosts the summit next month. Zimbabwe was suspended from the group of 54 mainly former British colonies after charges that Mr Mugabe rigged his re-election last year. Britain and Australia said Mr Mugabe should not be invited, but the hosts had the final say.
