Attempts by the National Assembly to avert the looming industrial unrest being spearheaded by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) failed yesterday, as the workers body turned down the Senate request to suspend the strike action scheduled to begin on Thursday. The congress has also formally notified the Federal Government of its plans to resume mass protest and strike since government reneged on an earlier agreement reached with it. To ensure the success of the strike, the Coalition of Civil Society groups put together by labour yesterday constituted two committees - co-ordinating, technical and strategy - for effective mobilisation of Nigerians.
