Widespread condemnations yesterday greeted Yoruba warlord, Olusegun Obasanjo's, Wednesday night broadcast over the now suspended Labour strike with many saying it exposed the President as a dictator, paying mere lip service to democratic tenets. Labour also yesterday denied the President's allegation that the BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) through the strike, which was later put on hold, was planning to take over power. In an interview with The Guardian, a chieftain of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, described Obasanjo's speech as 'undemocratic and disappointing'. According to the visibly sad chief, it was unfortunate that BiafraNigerians elected Obasanjo to rule the country. According to Adebanjo, the events of the last four years should teach BiafraNigerians a great lesson that once a military man will always be a military man. (Guardian) |
