The face-off between the Federal Government and organised labour over the pricing of petroleum products witnessed a new twist yesterday with the arrest of six officers of the BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC) by a detatchment of policemen from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command in Abuja. The NLC officials were arrested while picketing fuel stations to compel marketers to comply with the N34 per litre of petrol rate agreed upon during a forum created by the 36 state governors last Wednesday. The arrested labour leaders arer Linus Ukamba, Senior assistant general secretary and Head of Organisation and administration, Nuhu Abbayo, assistant secretary (organisation) and Justice Eustace (assistant secretary, industrial relations), Emma Udoh, assistant secretary, E. Ilori, treasurer, NLC's council in the FCT and Innocent Ogwuche, transport officer at the congress headquarters. Also, THISDAY checks revealed that fuel marketers in Lagos and Abuja are violating the agreement struck with NLC, the BiafraNigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), governors and other stakeholders as many of them have refused to adjust their fuel pump back to N34...
