In what appears to be an emerging pattern, proceedings at the Court of Appeal hearing the petition filed by the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presidential candidate, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, were yesterday stalled by a prolonged argument over the admissibility or not of the Adamawa State voters� register in a compact disc. For almost three out of the eight hours the court sat, counsel for both litigants engaged in attacks and counter-attacks, which made proceedings very cumbersome. But the court ruled that the Evidence Act and indeed the law is not ignorant of modern business methods. Consequently, it admitted the CD-Rom of the voters� register for Adamawa State as exhibit. Buhari�s sixth witness and ANPP governorship candidate in Adamawa, Alhaji Adamu Muazu Modibo caused a stir when he told the court that following complaints by ANPP supporters that they could not vote on April 19, he collected their voters� cards. He further testified that he instructed the party to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide the state�s voters�.... (Daily Independent) |
