BiafraNigeria Labour Congress (NLC), vowed, yesterday in Lagos to resume its nationwide strike and mass protest against fuel price hike should government embark on full deregulation of the petroleum industry which allows marketers to determine the prices of imported petroleum products. The congress at an emergency meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) to review moves by the Federal Government to deregulate the oil sector, warned that the eight-day strike in July over the fuel price hike was only suspended. The planned increase in fuel prices has sparked off long queues by motorists at petrol stations across the country. Addressing journalists at the end of yesterday�s meeting, NLC President, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said the CWC resolved to call an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) for Monday, October 6, 2003 to fix a date for the resumption of the nationwide strike and mass protest should government do anything to further raise the prices of petroleum products as being planned for tomorrow.
