Mrs. Odili Charges Nigerians on Welfare From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Justice Mary Odili, has charged corporate, philanthropic and non-governmental organisations (NGO) in the country to assist government in making life more meaningful for the well being of the less privileged in the society through provision of social amenities among others things. Justice Odili gave the charge weekend while declaring open the annual free health/ medical services floated by a Port Harcourt based socio-philanthropic organisation, 12th Committee to residents of Isiokpo, Mbenu and Igbokwe streets, Port Harcourt. She described the exercise as a worthy venture and commended the members of the committee for devoting their time, money and resources to execute the programme. The state First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the new national Vice-chairman, People Democratic Party (PDP), South-South, Mrs. Christiana Godspower Ake, challenged other NGOs operating in the country to emulate the activities of the 12th Committee, saying "it takes determination and the spirit of God to think of the less privileged in our minds." Presenting a plaque to Mrs. Odili over her humanitarianism in the state, the chairman of the 12th Committee, Sir. Osita Nwadei, acknowledged the Adolescent Project (TAP), the Skill Acquisition Programme and the formation of woman co-operatives executed by Mrs Odili to bring about capacity building through empowerment.
