Experts Meet on Varsity Standards From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Experts in the education sector would meet from Tuesday in a five-day workshop on Benchmarks - Minimum Academics Standards Merger for Nigerian Universities. The Head, Information and Public Relations of National Universities Commission (NUC), Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Yakasai, told newsmen at the weekend that the present minimum academic standard has been in place for the past 15 years and has never been reviewed. He said the experts would gather to fashion out minimum academic standard and benchmarks and merge both in other to come out with one that would produce better skills and entreprenural gruaduates. Yakasai added that the experts would also review the content to incorporate studies that would produce skills. The forum would involved 14 panels, each to be headed by a vice chancellor, experts in each of the subject to be considered would also participate. Also, professional bodies like ICAN, NMA, ANA, COREN etc are expected to be fully involved in the five-day event. The workshop would be declared open by Minister of Education, Professor Fabian Osuji.
