Stay Off 2007 Presidency, Yoruba Youths Tell IBB From Chuks Okocha in Abuja A group of Yoruba youths, the Council of Yoruba Youths (CYY), has opposed the intension of former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, to run for presidency, warning that he should stay off the 2007 presidential elections as part of atonement for the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential elections. Addressing a news conference in Abuja, CYY said the best way for IBB to atone for the annulment of the June 12 presidential elections was for him to stay off from contesting and a mere apology. According to the National Coordinator of CYY, Yinka Fafore, "the Council of Yoruba Youths is of the opinion that the best way for the former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida to atone for June 12 and be forgiven by Nigerians, is for him to stay off 2007 Presidential Elections." The National Coordinator stated that when this is done it "will actually prove to every Nigerian that the former head of state is now remorseful about the satanic annulment of June 12 election, which struggles for its restoration led to the death of Chief MKO Abiola and other martyrs of June 12." "It will be a show of shame for Babangida to be talking of apologising for June 12 and at the same time be running for the presidential elections and asking Nigerians to give him a democratic mandate, an ideal he does not stand for while in office for eight years," the CYY said.
