'N25bn Capital Base, No Threat to Islamic Bank' Govornor Ahmed Sani of Zamfara State has said the issue of N25 billion capital base would not affect the establishment of the proposed Jaiz Islamic Bank in the country. "We are making effort to ensure that Jaiz Islamic Bank becomes a reality in Nigeria as soon as possible,'' Sani said, while answering questions from newsmen in Gusau. He said, shortly after a delegation from the Islamic Bank, Bangladesh paid him a courtesy visit, that every step would be taken to ensure that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued the license for the bank. According to him, as soon as the CBN released the license, the bank would commence operation in Abuja and other branches across the country. Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of the proposed bank, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, said the technical partners from the Islamic Bank, Bangladesh were in the state to brief the governor on the progress so far made. He added that the Islamic Bank, Bangladesh had a capital base of 130 million dollars and a total deposit of about 13 billion dollars. Also speaking the leader of the delegation from Bangladesh, Mr. Nazir Ahmed, said the bank, as one of the largest banks in Bangladesh had never compromised on any issue relating to Sharia. He noted that the experience and expertise gained by the bank in the past 20 years would be of immense help to Nigeria in its bid to establish an Islamic bank.
