NATIONAL NEWS Oil firm petitions IG, alleges threat by contractor By Albert Akpor     Abuja Sunday, August 01, 2004 THE INSPECTOR-General of Police Mr. Tafa Balogun, has been petitioned by management of West African Oilfield Services Limited,  a Port Harcourt-based oil servicing company, alleging that a former labour contractor to the company was threatening the lives of their personnel.  The petition which was dated July 16, 2004, signed by Managing Director of the company, Mr. M.A. Abrahim alleged that the contractor who was responsible for the supply of labourers to the company through two of his companies had resorted to both verbal and telephone threats to the lives of key management personnel of the company after his contract was terminated for gross indiscipline and insubordination.  The petitioner further alleged that the contractor accused them of stealing his N24.4 million cash as well as being indebted to both the Federal and Rivers State Revenue Board to the tune of N300 million as withholding tax from Pay As You Earn (PAYE) deducted from staffers for over six years.  However, the accusation according to the petitioner was first reported to Zone six Calabar and later to the Inspector -General of Police through petitions adding that the petition had since been  found to be false.  .   Home  |  Cover Stories  |  National Newsreel  |  Politics  |  Business  |  Sports  |  World  | Contact © 1998- 2004.
