In a statement last weekend, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Nze Ignatius Umunna, quoted the governor to have said: "I (Kalu) and the people of Imo have appreciated the efforts of the traditional rulers in promoting peace, growth and development in the state". The statement, repeatedly announced on the state-owned Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), reads in part: "Kalu, on behalf of the government of Imo State wishes to place on record his most sincere appreciation on the way and manner the members of the dissolved council served the state government". The statement said that the dissolution of the council was sequel to the expiration of its tenure, adding that the government would reconstitute a new one soon.
