The Kwara executive
council has approved
capital projects worth N192.8 million to improve the performance of its radio and television stations.
Briefing journalists at the weekend in Ilorin on the council’s decisions, the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, said the approval was given following submissions by his ministry.
Adedoyin said a sum of N20.5 million was approved for the refurbishment of two FM radio transmitters of Radio Kwara, while N67.37 million was approved for the supply of omni-directional antennae for the Kwara Television.
Apart from these, he said, the sum of N105 million was approved for the purchase of a 150 kilowatt transmitter for Radio Kwara to serve as back-up for uninterrupted transmission.
He said that within the budget, a state-of-the-art studio would also be provided for the radio station.
Adedoyin said, once provided, all the equipment would ensure that signals of the two broadcast media were heard and seen in any parts of the country where they are not previously received.
He said that the management of the stations were always carried along in the purchase of equipment, adding that the present situation would not be an exception.
He said that his ministry believed in following the due process in such matters.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Kale Belgore, said the executive council had approved prices for the new 350 housing units being constructed by the government for low income earners.
Belgore said a one-bedroom apartment would be sold for N900,000, while a two-bedroom apartment would cost N1.35 million.
He said payments for the houses would be in four instalments, adding that they were being subsidised by at least 27 per cent by the government.
Belgore said the housing units which would enjoy modern infrastructure would be ready for occupation by October.
