Don't Build Structures Under NEPA Lines - Makoju From Ahmed Oyerinde in Sokoto Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National electric Power Authority (NEPA), Mr J.O. Makoju, has appealed to the authority's customers to stop building structures under NEPA power lines describing it as a "very dangerous practice". Makoju made this appeal in Sokoto, in an address delivered on his behalf by the Executive Director, Mr Yussuf Abdul-Mumini, at the commissioning of the 2x7.5 MVA 33/11KV injection sub station at Illela Road, outskirt of Sokoto metropolis. Makoju said such practice had resulted in loss of many lives and property in the past, and solicited for the cooperation of the states and local government councils. He reminded the people of the need to pay their bills as at when due, to enable NEPA sustain and improve services. He described Sokoto towns as among the few fortunate in the federation that have the best electricity power supply and stability. The advantage, according to him, came from the fact that the state is supplied from Gomua, 330/132 KV transformer at Birnin-Kebbi, which also supplies part of Niger Republic. Makoju announced that the illela Road Injection sub-station cost the authorities N130 million and called on the people of the area to make the best use of the facility. He expressed optimism that when the second GOMVA 330/132 transmission station is commissioned, power supply to Sokoto would improve.
