Bill on Infrastructural Devt Before N/Assembly

Worried by the decaying infrastructure on the country the government has sent a new bill to the National Assembly that would allow the government to enter into partnership with private individuals so as to boast the infrastrutral development of the country.

Minister of Financer, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala dropped the hint in a paper delivered at the expanded executive committee meeting of the peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South west held at Maccom Golf Hotels and Resort at Ada, Osun State on Saturday.

She said that if the bill is passed into law by the National Assembly, a_ private investor would commence work on a second Nigeria Bridge on Build-own Transfer (BOT) basis.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala stated that " the public-private sector partnership bill would also involves concessing of those facilities the government cannot manage efficaverty were ports airport etc.

The minister added that ' in under to redress the infrastructure problems in Nigeria , president Obasanjo has insisted that the bank of an capital expenditures of about 65 percent in 2004 must go to roads, power, evacuation health and security'.

"The heads of the country in these priority areas are large, power alone needs close to N100 billion ($1.0 billion per annum and investment resources for the next three years she said.
