...As Minister Seeks Justice for Foundation Members
From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin
Minister of State for Health, Princess Funke Adedoyin, has declared that injustice meted out to foundation members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State should be addressed rather than labelling such members as "troublesome."
Adedoyin, speaking at the Kwara South Senatorial district rally of the party at Ajase-Ipo, said the foundation members of the party are insisting on justice and fair play in the running of the party.
The minister posited that PDP being a national party should be made an all inclusive party and not the exclusive preserves of a group within the party.
She saluted the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party for identifying with justice by directing that the status quo at of December 2002 on the party structure should be maintained.
"We are not at war with anybody. Rather, our position all along has been that the structure used for the delegates in 2002 should be adhered to.
"We have said it is on the 2002 primaries we stand. The December 2002 primaries were used to pick delegates for the election and we are insisting on that," she said.
On the election petition at the local government tribunal, the minister noted that the suit is being handled at the party's national secretariat.
Her words: "PDP is a party guided by rules and procedure. The constitution of the party is clear on the sponsorship of candidates for election and since that aspect of our law was breached, the national secretariat has deemed it fit to institute the suit to challenge the body that did such thing."
Earlier, the chairman of the Kwara South Senatorial district of the party, Chief Samuel Adedayo, has commended the party followers for their patience and steadfastness during the struggle.
He lamented the marginalisation of the foundation members of the party in running the party in the state.
