Institute Goes Tough on New Members' Admission From Okon Bassey in Port Harcourt Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria has now gone tough on the admission procedure of members into its fold, saying henceforth fresh intakes must passed the professional examinations of the body. "Even if you come out from the university with a degree on personnel and industrial relations, it does not make you a professional. If you must be a member of this institute, you must take a professional exams to be able to practice human capital development," the Institute declared. The President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Mr. Victor Eburajolo, dropped the hint at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State weekend. "From this year, fresh intakes into the institute will now have to come in by examination," Eburajolo stressed, emphasing that the period of indiscriminate admission of people into the institute was over. He regretted that hitherto personnel departments were used as dumping ground for secretaries very loyal to their bosses, while others who did not find a place to fit in would be asked to go to personnel management. The president of the institute, who noted that personnel management and human capital development is a wide field today, said in acknowledging the membership of the body as a profession, the institute is working on the accreditation of its certificate by Federal Government. According to him, negotiation has gone far with Federal Ministry of Education as well as accreditation of courses in the tertiary institutions.
