Health Official Decries Stigmatisation of HIV/AIDS Patients From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health in Kwara State, Hajia Asiat Ayinke Saka, has decried the high rate of stigmatisation of HIV/ AIDS patients. Saka, at the closing ceremony of a week seminar organised by UNICEF on the Prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission from mother to child, noted that the stigmatisation of HIV/AIDS patients portends a great danger for the country. She canvassed for a change of attitude for the afflicted in order to give them a sense of belonging. The Permanent Secretary, a nurse by profession said "unless we change our attitude to them positively, most of the afflicted might be forced to transmit it to others as a price for such stigmatisation". Rather than the stigmatisation, Saka called for a global concerted war against the spread and prevalence of the deadly disease in the society. She charged Nigerians to feel free to check their HIV/AIDS status at designated health institutions always. On the transmission of the disease from mother to child, Saka hinted of an acceptable powdered milk and nutrients that can replace breast milk in ease of mothers who are HIV positive.
