In line with its enduring sports initiatives and programmes which have been on-going since the launch in 1976, Nigeria's leading malt drink from the stable of Nigerian Breweries PLC, Maltina, has extended its "Maltina Cares' personality to youth sports development.
This it has done by embarking on sponsorship of inter-house sports relay competitions in schools across the country to further the brand property of the brand.
Maltina which has consistently sponsored school relays as well as the annual National cycling Tour of Nigeria is according to the brand manager Mr. Biodun Odejayi investing in the Inter-House sports relay a way of "encouraging sports development in the country with special emphasis on relays and also to discover new talents who can be groomed into tomorrow's champions through grassroots games"
Odejayi further says the sponsorship will further project Maltina as a caring, energetic and socially responsible brand leader in the malt drinks market segment.
Statement from Nigerian Breweries Plc has it that the Schools Inter-House Sports relay sponsorship has commenced since February 2004 and will cover selected schools from all the Geo-political regions of the country.
Some of the schools already listed to benefit in the March 2004 group include Trinity Secondary School, Oshodi; University of Lagos Staff School, Akoka ; and St. Patrick's College, West End, Asaba. Others are Federal Government College, Kaduna; Harbour Girls Secondary School, Port Harcourt; St. Monica's College, Ogbunike Onitsha; and Federal Government Girls College? Enugu.
Maltina demonstrated this "Caring philosophy" when late last year, it re-launched the Vitamin A Fortified Maltina as true remedy to eye problems in Nigeria thereby reducing the incidence of night blindness, among other ailments.
