FG Moves to End Indigene/Settler Dispute From Iyefu Adoba in Abuja Concerned that the country is still grappling with the issues of equity in management of resources, indigenisation, alleged political and economic marginalisation and the place of religion and culture in the nation's body politic, Federal Government has inaugurated a 13-man Human Development committee with Economic Adviser to the President, Professor Ode Ojowu, as chairman. Inaugurating the committee on behalf of President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abuja yesterday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Ufot Ekaette, regretted that Nigeria is yet to achieve a high level of tolerance. Ekaette noted that the spate of religious riots and communal conflicts in some parts of the country have become an issue of serious concern to Federal Government. Ekaette pointed out that riots and conflicts have a negative impact on concerted efforts of government to attract much needed foreign investments to stimulate economic growth and development. A press statement from the SGF and signed by the Director Press, Mr. Eric Teniola, stated that the committee is to map out effective strategies for deploying the strengths of the country's culture for peace, love and democracy. The SGF charged the committee with two ministers, six ministers of state, former Economic Adviser and two special advisers to chart a new course for peace and understanding among the multi-cultural, religious and various ethnic groups in the country and to submit its report within three months.
