419: Ribadu's Impostor Granted N10m Bail By Abimbola Akosile An Ikeja High Court Judge, Justice Olubunmi Oyewole, yesterday granted a N10 million bail to advanced fee fraud suspect, Mr. Tony Onuoha, who is being charged with alleged impersonation of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu ,Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which led to his earlier arraignment by the commission. Onuoha, who had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge levelled against him, was alleged to have forged a letter titled, "Re Urgent Contract Payment Advice As Regards My Telephone conversation With You Today", purported to have been written by Ribadu, with intent to defraud and obtain money under false pretences, to one Mr. Y. Nakahara, a Japanese national. In the suit with filed by Mr. M. S. Hassan, EFCC counsel, Onuoha was alleged to have committed the crime on March 8 at Agege, contrary to sections 5(2), 8(b) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Act of 1995 as amended by Act No. 62 of 1999. Mr Biola Adegoke, counsel to Onuoha, had at the last hearing date, informed court of a summons for bail filed on behalf of his client, and sought for a date for hearing of the application, which was set for July 27 while ruling took place yesterday, and October 11 and 12 were set for trial dates.
