Police Clampdown on Criminals, Arrest 48

Barely three weeks after the launch of operation Clamp-down on robbers in Ogun State, the state Police Comm-issioner, Mr Olusegun Efuntayo, has apprehended no fewer than 48 dare devil criminals, including 27 Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline vandals, while several weapons and ammunition were also recovered.
On assumption of office last month the new commissioner of Police promised tough time for all armed robbers and other criminals in the state, during which he advised them to either leave the state or prepare to face fire.
Apparently living to his words, Efuntayo yesterday paraded 48 dare devil armed robbers made up of 27 NNPC pipeline vandals and 21 members of various robbery gangs before new-smen at the state headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Some of the arrested pipeline vandals include Daud Abudu, Taofeek Ganiyu, Ebenezer Oyeme, Goodluck Ikpoge, Gbamila Pere, Epokumi Bibilo, Tamare Emiemi, and Tobo Keke.
Briefing journalists on his activities since he assumed office, Efuntayo disclosed that the hoodlums were aressted by men of operation fire for fire, following a tip at various locations across the state.
According to him, the NNPC vandals were apprehended at different locations, including Fatola Island, along Arepo water ways, Ishaga and Oloparun vilages both in Shagamu and at Warewa Village in Owode-Egba Local Governent.
He said some of the arrested suspected robbers were specialised in robbing luxury buses from Lagos en route PortHarcourt, adding that the robbers normally carried out their operations between Sagamu and Ijebu- Ode.
Describing the efforts as model achievements, Efuntayo promised to meet the challenge posed by robbers in the state.
"I want to assure the citizens of Ogun State that, there is no hiding place for any hoodlum or criminal", he said, adding that those arrested would soon be charged for various offences.
