Bauchi Requires N1bn for Refugees From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Bauchi State Government has disclosed that it would need about N1 billion to provide basic infrastructure in the areas mapped out for the rehabilitation of displaced persons who are scattered in various refugee camps across the state, following the ethno-religious crisis in Plateau State. The Chairman, Task Force on the Rehabilitation of displaced persons in the State, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, who disclosed this to newsmen in Bauchi said the task force went round the 20 local government areas and came up with 45,000 displaced persons spread across eight local government areas of Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro, Alkaleri, Kirfi, Misau, Giade and Darazo. Mohammed, who is also the permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Finance said the committee, in conjunction with local government councils, identified some plots of land in the areas for the resettlement of the victims. According to him, "the provision of basic infrastructures at the various areas is going on at the moment. There is construction of schools, boreholes, healthcare, among others, at the moment in these new areas, in line with the recommendations of the Task Force to the government. Reacting to recent media reports that some of the victims interviewed at Mararaban Liman Katagum claimed to have been allotted plots for erection of structures, the chairman said the committee has not given out any plot of land.
