Commissioner, Others Drilled on Zimbabwean Farmers From Tunde Sanni in Ilorin For close to three hours, legislators in Kwara State took the state commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Sani Boriya and stakeholders in the agriculture sector to task on the Zimbabwean Initiative of the state government. The action followed last week's motion by the lawmakers summoning Boriya and the stakeholders to the assembly floor, to shed more light on the gains and benefits of the Zimbabwean Farmers Union in the state. Others that appeared along with the commissioner included the commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Alhaji Saka Issa, his Land and Housing Colleague, Alhaji Kale Belgore, President of the Apex Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Chief Samuel Gbadebo, as well as branch managers of UBA, GTB and STB, the leading banks involved in the loan scheme for the white farmers. Boriya, on his defence of the white farmers said the initiative was well thought of, with the best of intention to turn around the economy of the state. He allayed peoples' fears that the white farmers may lay claim to the area allocated to them. "The Zimbabwean Farmers Union are here to bring their skills to bear on our agriculture, so that the economy of the state can be the best for it, he said.
