Corps Members May Go for 4 Months Camping By Chidi Ayinna National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) scheme may have its camping period extended from the present three weeks to four months. This was revealed by the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Special Duties and Youth Development, Mr. Frank Nweke Jnr, in Abuja. The minister said he planned to propose to the Federal Executiive Council for the NYSC scheme to include more military training, entrepreneural skills, citizen and civic development, and many other values. Decrying the present state of NYSC camps across the country, he said instead of the preseent NYSC camps littered in each state of the federation, there is need for vast training camps set up in the six geo-pliitical zones of the country that are well furnished with requisite facilities. Nweke also countered criticism that the national honours award has lost its flavour and opened to all kinds of peeople. According to him, the number of awardees was justifiiable as the National Honours Act of 1954 stipulated that 412 persons were eligible to receive the award annually. He revealed that plans are underway by his ministry to introduce a programme called "Youth in Agriculture," which would not go the same way as similar unsuccessful government programmes in the past.
